Caring and serving people is key to development

RAIGARH (Chhattisgarh): Social entrepreneur and CSR leader Rusen Kumar said that care of elderly and needy people is an immediate duty of every youth. Caring and serving people is key to development of society and nation.

While addressing audience a medical assistance equipment distribution camp in Bansia and Patelpali villages, near Raigarh, he said that giving social, economic, emotional security and dignity to elderly and needy is collective responsibility of the enabled and awakened society.

Chief Guest of the camp Rusen Kumar said that elderly people need additional care in winter seasons. “Exercise and other social engagement activities can have a positive impact on the mind and body of the elderly.”,he said. Kumar said that the community based programs have significant role to play in care of the elderly population, particularly in rural areas. Awareness programmes and social services are the key to the community based programmes for the welfare of elderly.

“We must involve our youth in welfare programmes across all level. Bridging the gap between relief and development is a great way to serve the community”, he added.

Rusen said that every society must have community based programmes for the welfare and protection of elderly.

With the CSR support from ABB IndiaHelpAge India conducted health camp and assistance distribution camp in the villages of Raigarh district in Chhattisgarh. As a part of the ongoing initiative, health camps for 500 senior citizens and needy were provided medical/healthcare assistance in the form of walker, walking sticks, wheel chairs, hearing aids, spectacle frames, medicines, etc. In the free medical camp and pathological camp around 1000 people participated.

In charge of HelpAge India, Chhattisgarh – Subhankar Biswas said, “The initiate is our humble attempt at giving back to senior citizens and needy people. We will continue our endeavours. ”

The programme was attended by villagers, beneficiaries, local representatives and team of doctors from all nearby villages.

HelpAge India is a leading charity platform in India working with and for disadvantaged elderly for more than 4 decades. The organisation has been actively working in various parts of Chhattisgarh for the welfare of elderly people.

The elderly constitute 10% of India’s total population today and they need support from the government and society. Social welfare programme will enable them to live a life of dignity.
