OUR WORK
Support A Gran
There are thousands of destitute elders who do not even have access to two square meals and the means to meet their basic needs. One of the oldest programmes of HelpAge is Support a Gran, formerly known as the ‘Adopt a Gran’ (AAG) and ‘Sponsor a Gran’ programme. Monthly rations of wheat, rice, pulses, cooking oil and basic spices are provided along with daily use items such as detergent, soap, clothing, health, recreation and some pocket money is provided to elders in need. Under this programme monetary support is often given to needy elders living in old age homes.
The ration not only provides these elders much needed sustenance, but also makes them self-reliant, as they don’t have to beg or depend on anyone anymore. Started in 1983, this programme has gained much recognition with our donors and elders alike. It is implemented through local project partners, who help identify destitute elders in neighboring communities and HelpAge works with them providing these elders a life of sustenance & dignity.
