ONGC and HelpAge India launch a 16crore Mobile Medicare Project


New Delhi, April 27.
ONGC & HelpAge India joined hands and launched a pan India healthcare program for the elderly in 20 locations for 5 consecutive years through HelpAge's Mobile Medicare Unit (MMU) project titled "Varisthajan Swasthya Seva Abhiyaan". This is one of the biggest ever partnerships that ONGC has entered with a non-profit institution amounting to Rs.16.5 crore. Mr. Salman Khurshid, Union Minister of Corporate Affairs (Govt. of India) & chief guest, unveiled the project as a symbol of kick-starting this huge collaboration at the India International Centre. The guest of honor was Mr. Bhaskar Chatterjee, Secretary, Department of Public Enterprise, Govt. of India.

82.5% elderly affected by inflation, 92.4% feel Govt. hasn't done enough to control it.


New Delhi, Feb. 23.
As per a random sample survey of Senior Citizens conducted through Senior Citizens Associations across the country by HelpAge India, it has been found that 82.5% of the elderly have been affected adversely by the rise in prices over the last year and 92.4% feel that the Govt. has done nothing in this regard. The lower and the middle income groups have been hit the hardest. 71.6% elderly have cut down on their health expenditure and 40.8% have curtailed expense on nutrition in their diets. 27.8% have witnessed tension/anxiety levels grown in their families due to which their relationships have been strained...

HelpAge India launched its new campaign "LED India, FED India, TAUGHT India"


New Delhi, Jan.29, 2010.
HelpAge India, started the new year with the launch of its new campaign on the elderly: "LED India, FED India TAUGHT India," a tribute to our forgotten leaders, at Delhi's PHD House this morning. Special guest Ms. Shalini Dewan, Director, United Nations Information Centre, along with Mr. M. M. Sabharwal, President Emeritus of HelpAge India, launched the campaign website www.helpageindia.org & collateral (brochure, posters, etc.) and felicitated veterans who had led exemplary lives, with HelpAge's "Inspirational Achiever" award. The aim was to honor those elderly who have worked hard and achieved milestones within their own field and continue to so, living life with strength and dignity, the underlining motto of the campaign..

Children become Santa to the elderly this Christmas


New Delhi, Dec.23, 2009.
With the aim to bring cheer and happiness in the lives of the elderly, HelpAge India organized a unique Christmas celebration at an old age home tucked away in Delhi's Fatehpur Beri, called "Gharaunda". 30 school children from Class 7 & 8 of Ryan International School, Vasant Kunj, took on the role of "Santa Claus" for the elderly, on the last day before their Christmas Holidays started"..

HelpAge India brought the National Policy on Older Persons back to the forefront 10 years after its inception on International Day of Older Persons


New Delhi, Oct.1, 2009.
It has been 10 years since the Government of India announced the National Policy on Older Persons in January 1999. HelpAge India, on International Day of Older Persons took stock of how effective the Policy has been since its inception in the presence of chief guest Mr. Mukul Wasnik, newly elected Union Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment, at a function organized in Delhi, after the HelpAge & Ministry’s intergenerational walkathon which he flagged off early in the morning at India Gate.

Capitals' Seniors Voice their Needs from the New Government: HelpAge India does a quick survey


New Delhi, May 2009.
Just as voting is wrapping up and the wait begins for the election results, Seniors voice what they want from the New Government. As per a random sample survey of Senior Citizens conducted across the capital by HelpAge India, an organization working for the elderly, 41.4% Seniors state that they have been unhappy with past Governments and list Security from Crime and Abuse as their Number One priority & demand from the new Government, followed by Better Healthcare for the Elderly.

Delhi beats Mumbai & Bangalore in Crime against Senior Citizens: Dr. Kiran Bedi marks World Elder Abuse Awareness Day with HelpAge India


New Delhi, June 15.
To raise awareness about the issue of Crime & Elder Abuse, HelpAge India marked World Elder Abuse Awareness Day with an interactive discussion with the Senior citizens of Delhi at the India International Centre (Annexe) on June 15. Dr. Kiran Bedi as chief guest signed in her support and readily wore a badge stating "Say No to Elder Abuse" as part of HelpAge India's silent advocacy against Elder Abuse.

HelpAge India demands an AGE-FRIENDLY Budget for Seniors

As the date for the declaration of Budget India draws near, HelpAge India writes to the Government asking for an Age Friendly budget for Seniors. It stresses on 3 primary concerns: Pension / Income Security, Income Tax exemption limits to be increased and Heath Security for seniors.
